And with energy costs on the rise, it's becoming more and more difficult to heat our homes without breaking our budgets. Thankfully, though, there are a lot of different things you can do to heat your home more efficiently and save a ton on your energy bills, and we'd like to talk about those things in this article.
To heat your home more efficiently, try doing the following:
- Increase wall insulation and attic insulation in your home. Adding extra insulation to your walls and attic will help keep your home warmer during the cold months and cooler during the warm months. Adding insulation won't only pad your home, but it'll 'pad' your wallet, too.
- Seal all drafts in your home. Drafts can do a lot more damage than you think, but they're easy to sniff out and take care of. To find drafts, light a candle and "trace" it around your windows, doors, vents, and outlets. If you have a dog, you should even test it out around the doggy door. If the flame flickers, it's a draft. Seal the drafts with silicone caulking, electrical tape, or foam sealant.
- Perform regular furnace maintenance and furnace repairs to your home heating units. An old unit that just doesn't work like it used to can end up costing you a lot of money over time. In contrast, investing in a new energy-efficient furnace will amount to huge energy savings in the long run.
